Private Motorsport Experiences with Merrills Motorsport.

A fast, open circuit in the Lincolnshire countryside, used by manufacturers to develop race cars.

An Airfield Built for Speed

The Test-Track where Britain’s race cars are born.

RAF Blyton opened on 20 April 1942, home to 2,355 service personnel and three concrete runways handling operations over occupied Europe throughout the war. It closed in 1954, and the land returned to Lincolnshire farmland for the better part of six decades before motorsport enthusiast Richard Usher acquired the airfield in March 2011.

The existing wartime tarmac was planed and a new surface laid in its place, creating a 1.5-mile circuit that opened two months later.

A further section was added in 2012, expanding the facility to ten configurations - Sprint, Inner, Outer, Eastern, Long String, Rallycross, and combinations of each. The result is a circuit that can be shaped entirely around what you want from a day.

Open, flat, and largely free of armco, barriers, and pit walls, Blyton is one of the few circuits in Britain where a driver can genuinely explore the limit of a fast car without the anxiety of what lies on the other side of a wall. What it offers is space, speed, and complete flexibility - qualities that are harder to find than they sound.

Today, it is used by British race car manufacturer Ginetta, to develop their race cars. With Merrills Motorsport, not only can you have this entire test track to yourself, but you can drive the Ginetta where it was crafted, with an instructor who helped to develop it.

The circuit's clubhouse contains briefing rooms, a kitchen facility, and WiFi throughout - well-run and suited to a day focused entirely on driving.
