Drive one of Britain's most dramatic circuits, carved into the ancient Kentish hills.
A Natural Amphitheatre Built for Racing
Britain’s Colosseum to Motorsport.
Brands Hatch began not as a circuit but as a hollow. A forested bowl in the Kent countryside, used by motorcycle riders in the 1920s who simply turned up and raced with the permission of the local landowner.
The track was surfaced in 1950, extended through the woods in 1960, and by 1964 it was ready for Formula One. Jim Clark won the first British Grand Prix held here. Jack Brabham, Sir Stirling Moss, Jo Siffert, Niki Lauda, James Hunt, and Ayrton Senna all followed.
Nigel Mansell took his first Formula One victory here in 1985, then won again in 1986 - the last Grand Prix Brands Hatch ever hosted, closed out by the man the crowd loved most, on the circuit they loved best.
The layout has barely changed since. Paddock Hill Bend still drops blind and steep off the start-finish straight, demanding commitment before you can see where you're going. Graham Hill Bend, Druids, Surtees, Pilgrim's Drop, Hawthorn - each corner carries the history of what has happened here.
The Grand Prix circuit runs 2.433 miles. The shorter Indy circuit, nestled entirely within the natural bowl, runs 1.198 miles and offers near-complete visibility from almost any point trackside.
Few circuits in the world are as watchable - or as demanding to drive well.
