Castle Combe opened in July 1950 on the perimeter road of a wartime RAF training airfield, built on farmland requisitioned in 1940.
When the last aircraft left in 1945, the Bristol Motorcycle and Light Car Club saw the perimeter road, approached the landowner, and organised the first race meeting for the summer of 1950.
Sir Stirling Moss won three races at the inaugural public meeting in October that year. Mike Hawthorn - the first British Formula One World Champion - took four victories here in 1951 alone, only his second season of racing.
Colin Chapman gave the Lotus Mk3 its winning debut on this track. Graham Hill raced here in 1955. Alan Jones scored his first Formula Three victory at Castle Combe in 1971, ahead of Jody Scheckter.
The circuit is 1.85 miles - fast, with long straights and corners that demand precision at speed.
Camp, Quarry, Old Paddock, The Esses, Hammerdown, Tower - none of them are slow corners.
Consistently regarded as the quickest club circuit in Britain, it is a track that rewards the driver who finds the limit and holds it.
What to Expect at Castle Combe
Castle Combe sits in north-west Wiltshire, between Chippenham and the village of Castle Combe itself - accessible from Junctions 17 and 18 of the M4, within 90 minutes of London and 20 minutes of Bath and Bristol.
Parking is extensive across multiple areas within the circuit grounds.

The Strawford Centre sits adjacent to the pitlane and provides a dedicated hospitality space with first-floor views across the circuit, available for private hire for groups requiring a more enclosed environment between sessions.
